Any product and program has it's high and lows and most will normally experience a cycle of diminishing returns or low profits due to competition or simply that the product has lost it's usefulness. I say most as there are some products that have outlived competition and continues to be around for generations.
As soon as you have created your product or chosen a program you will have to nurture your business for it to grow to fruition.
It is best to make the most profit that you can for the duration of the life of any product or program that you have.
To build your business is to go a step further in marketing and promotions.

There are far too many 'internet marketing' courses available to help you build your business. All have their pros and cons and the best one would depend on the sort of project you have.
However, one simple way to build any business is to create your own mailing list. You can create a build email list project and use this to market any program you have. Your list are your best group of friends with your business. Build it - cultivate it - establish good relations and you will reap the rewards.
